Maximizing Bamboo as a Construction Material

Department of Civil Engineering and Planning Education, Faculty of Engineering Yogyakarta State University held a public lecture with Prof. Mdy Dr. Zainal Abidin Akasah from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Civil and Built-Environment, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) (29-30 / 11/2019) who explained the use of bamboo to build temporary shelters or shelters for disaster victims.

In his research, he analyzed bamboo emergency shelters utilizing wind speed with visualization calculations for a 3-D wind load system using a sustainable bamboo frame design carried out using ANSYS fluent software.

Besides that, Prof. Mdy Dr. Zainal Abidin Akasah also revealed tips and ways to conduct research especially in the civil field and made scientific reports well and systematically to support the final thesis of the students which is in accordance with Prof. Mdy Dr. Zainal Abidin Akasah's experience who became the editorial board for several international journals such as the International Journal of Information Technology & Business Management, the Journal of Civil & Environmental Research, the Journal of Architecture Research, the Journal of Civil Engineering Research, and the International Journal of Civil, Environmental, Structural, Construction & Architectural Engineering.

Head of the Department of Civil Engineering Education and Planning Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, Darmono, M.T. explained that this activity aims to increase students' insights in certain fields / specializations listed in the curriculum while providing a refreshing process of study program learning in order to prepare themselves to fill the needs of the industrial world.

This activity is also a form of implementing cooperation with UTHM. "Previously, we also sent our lecturer, Prof. Sutarto was in the visiting professor program in Malaysia for three months, "he said.

"In addition to being a guest lecturer, this activity also pioneered a joint research program and finalized a credit transfer plan," he explained. (Steven)
