Encouraging Internationalization, The Faculty of Engineering UNY Strenthens Cooperation With Taiwan University

By admin | 9:21 AM WIB, Thu July 20, 2023

To accelerate the achievement of UNY's vision to become a world-class university, the Faculty of Engineering UNY has made various internationalization attempts in the academic field, including strengthening cooperation with three world-class universities in Taiwan.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNY, Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D., on the sidelines of his cooperation visit to Taiwan universities said that establishing cooperation with world-class universities is very important. "This is so that the quality of education, research, and publications is comparable with that of world-partner universities," said Herman. (20/07/2023).

On this occasion, the three Taiwanese universities that became the target of cooperation were the National Central University (NCU), National Dong Hwa University (NDHU), and the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT). The cooperation is outlined in the form of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed by the deans of both parties.

At National Central University, the Faculty of Engineering UNY with the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) agreed on cooperation to increase joint research and publications, staff mobility, and student exchange programs and implement Double Degree programs. The Dean of EECS-NCU, Prof. Mu-Chun Su, is glad to establish this collaboration and looks forward to carrying out other activities.

The collaboration between FT UNY and NCU has been running for quite a long time in the form of organizing a Double Degree program, namely between the S2 PTEI FT UNY study program and GINLT EECS NCU. Two alumni of the DD program include Rio Nurtantyana who has just graduated from NCU and Muhammad Irfan Luthfi who is currently finishing his doctorate at NCU.

At National Dong Hwa University, the Dean of FT UNY met with the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering, Prof. Wu-Yuin Hwang to agree on cooperation in academic mobility, research mobility, and community services mobility. Prof. Hwang welcomed the signing of the cooperation agreement with FT UNY. He is no stranger to FT UNY because he has long been a visiting professor and collaborated in research and publications with the dean of FT UNY Prof. Herman.

After this signing, the agenda continued with a meeting of the Computer Science and Information Engineering department to discuss the Double Degree program with the PTEI FT UNY department. The meeting was attended by the head of the department and several local teaching staff. The agenda ended with a visit to the AR and VR laboratories in the CSIE department.

The third day's visit is to the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT, Taipei Tech). The Dean of FT UNY agreed with the Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Prof. Scott Yang-Lang Chang, to sign a cooperation agreement in the areas of credit transfer, student exchange, staff mobility, joint research, joint publication, and teaching practice.

EECS Associate Dean, Prof. Peng-Chun Peng, is proud to be able to collaborate with foreign universities such as FT UNY. It is hoped that this cooperation agreement can be implemented in various activities that can improve the quality of both faculties. The visit to NTUT ended with a lab tour and facilities on campus.

Through collaboration with the three world-class universities, Prof. Herman hopes that the acceleration of FT UNY towards a world-class university can be accelerated faster, especially through various joint academic activities for both lecturers and students. In addition, scholarship opportunities are open for FT UNY lecturers who will continue their doctoral studies.
