The demand for cooperation with various foreign universities is a must for institutions that will compete globally, especially in this era of digital technology. The Faculty of Engineering UNY has made various efforts to internationalize its academics, including spurring cooperation with two universities in the Philippines.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNY, Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D., on the sidelines of his cooperation visit at the Philippine university said that establishing cooperation with foreign universities is very important. “This is so that the quality of education, research and publications can be on par with world partner universities,” said Herman. (07/09/2023).

On this occasion, two Philippine universities that became the destination of cooperation were the University of the Philippines Diliman and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. In addition to the Dean of FT UNY, participating in the UNY delegation were the Director of the Directorate of Research and Community Service of UNY, Prof. Dr. Samsul Hadi, MT, and FT UNY lecturers, Suprapto, Ph.D. and Muslikhin, Ph.D..

The UNY delegation was received by Dean Maria Antonia N. Tanchuling, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Aumni and Institutional Linkages Eric Augustus J Tingatinga, Ph.D. and Director of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Lew Andrew, Ph.D..

Both parties discussed and agreed on cooperation in the fields of education and research. Although, so far there have been various collaborative activities between lecturers in both faculties in the form of international collaborative research.

In this discussion, both parties agreed to increase the cooperation that has been running such as joint research and joint writing. Furthermore, various programs will be implemented such as double degree programs between relevant departments, visiting professor programs, student exchange, joint supervision and doctoral studies. Dean Lory welcomed the visit and cooperation. He will agree to visit UNY to sign an MoA with the Faculty of Engineering UNY and also as a speaker at ICERI in November 2023.
