UNY GERCEP FLIES TO JAPAN FOR 1-YEAR INTERNSHIP AT ISUZU JAPAN

By admin | 10:02 AM WIB, Mon January 16, 2023

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) is increasingly showing its excellence, one of which is from the student internship program. Last Friday (13/1), the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UNY, leaders of the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Vocational Studies and the management of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education held a ceremony to release 17 students who will leave for internships at Isuzu Motor, Ltd. in Tochigi Factory, Japan.  "There are a total of 17 students who will be interning at Isuzu Japan, with details of 11 Mechanical Engineering Education students, 1 Manufacturing Engineering student and 5 Applied Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering students" said Dr. Apri Nuryanto, S.Pd. ST, M.T. as the Head of Mechanical Engineering Education Department, in the release ceremony. "They have gone through the selection stage directly from the Japanese company. They have also received training in Japanese language and culture, which are needed to work in Japan," he added.

Since 2017, the Faculty of Engineering has routinely sent students for internship programs in Japan, starting with the Catering study program, then expanding to other departments such as Mechanical Engineering Education and Automotive. "This is our commitment to continue developing industrial cooperation with various study programs within UNY," said Dr. Darmono, MT. as the Vice Dean for Research, Cooperation, Information Systems, and Business of FT UNY. "The faculty and study programs will continue to increase cooperation with partners, in an effort to strengthen the relevance of graduate competencies to the needs of the world of work," added the Vice Dean of FT, who has one of his focuses in the field of cooperation.

Various student learning activities carried out outside the campus, in this case in partner industries, will get SKS recognition through the SKS Conversion Program. Moreover, in recent years UNY has implemented the Independent Campus policy. "We will make efforts for 1 year to be recognized as equivalent to 40 credits with relevant courses, such as the MBKM program. We ask the leaders of the Faculty of Engineering and Vocational Studies to facilitate the conversion in the study programs. We will also coordinate with related teams and units, such as the KKN/PK/PKL Service Unit to facilitate the conversion of relevant field courses." committed Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, M.Kes., AIFO, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UNY. This effort to convert student activities outside the campus is an obligation for universities to serve students who have the opportunity and potential to learn and develop competencies outside the campus. "We will oversee the re-design of the curriculum to bring it closer to the needs of the world of work," he added.

"Be confident in the name of UNY that you carry, show the positive values that UNY has instilled during your time as a student; create something useful for yourself, your family and the institution; create moments that can motivate younger siblings, other students, even from other faculties to take part in other international internship programs" concluded Prof. Dr. Siswantoyo, M.Kes., AIFO for the students.

Mr. Yasuyuki Itou, a representative of the Japanese company, who was also present in person at FT UNY, conveyed several things to the leadership of UNY and the students who will leave for Japan. In Japanese, he expressed his gratitude to UNY for supporting and helping the company in fulfilling the needs of human resources in Isuzu. In addition, he also advised the students to prepare all their needs before leaving, such as personal needs and strengthening Japanese language skills.
