Yogyakarta, May 2025 — The Faculty of Engineering at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) welcomed a delegation from Changsha Vocational and Technical College, China, for a Visiting Professor (VP) program. This initiative aims to foster academic cooperation, working alongside the Indonesian Transnational Education Association (ITEA), represented by Ms. Chyntia Wu. This program is an implementation of a previously established collaboration between the two institutions, which included the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and Implementing Arrangement (IA) with the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DPTM). During their VP tenure at DPTM, the two delegates from Changsha Vocational and Technical College, China, Assoc. Prof. Rong Zulan and Assoc. Prof. Chen Li, had the opportunity to teach AUTO CAD skills to DPTM students in the "Mechanical Drawing" course for three days, from May 26th to 28th, 2025.
Furthermore, this program will later provide students with the opportunity to pursue transnational education for 3 to 4 years, gaining direct learning experience in both Indonesia and China. Through the Transnational Education Program (TEP) facilitated by the International Cultural Communication Center Malaysia (ICCCM) and the China Center for International People to People Exchange (CCIPE), students will spend their first two years at UNY, one year at Changsha University, and complete their final year back at UNY. Throughout their studies, students will attend lectures from UNY lecturers and guest lecturers from China, including Mandarin language classes and courses relevant to their study programs.
This visit also encompassed exploring a joint teaching plan curriculum, discussing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between UNY, Changsha University, and ITEA-ICCCM, and planning for the recruitment of student participants for the program. This program is designed to strengthen academic competence, cross-cultural communication skills, and student readiness for the global workforce.
"This collaboration is an important step in supporting the internationalization of education within the Faculty of Engineering. Students will gain broader academic experience, global skills, and more open career opportunities," said one of the faculty leaders in their welcome remarks.
In addition to lectures, the program also offers internship opportunities in industry during the final year of study. All tuition and accommodation costs while in China will be covered by the program organizers, with the possibility of additional scholarships based on Mandarin language proficiency test (HSK) results.
The visit concluded with a campus tour and further discussions regarding program implementation. The UNY Faculty of Engineering warmly welcomed this initiative and hopes that this collaboration will be realized soon to support the development of student capacity and competitiveness at an international level.
