Student Creativity Program (PKM) Team from Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, Won Bronze in Pimnas

By admin | 11:06 AM WIB, Sun March 22, 2020

Student Creativity Program (PKM) team from Faculty of Engineering won a bronze presentation at the National Student Scientific Week (Pimnas) in Bali recently. The team consisting of Gito Syahril Fajar and Dimas Mahendra from Electrical Engineering Study Program and Rahmad Prasetyofrom Electrical Engineering Education Etudy Program made a work titled "Mokelis For Kids Microcontroller-Based Electrical Education Module Innovation as Learning Media for Early Childhood Electrical Safety".

According to Gito Syahril Fajar, Mokelis For Kids can provide simulations about the dangers of electrical equipment in an interactive module. "Mokelis presents an innovative trainer with simple accident simulations using a touch sensor, vibrator and MP3 module to display sound effects," said Gito. How it works: the touch sensor in this connecting structure is used to simulate the touch of an open electrical conductor material such as a peeling cable and an open socket. The vibrator will be used as an electric shock simulation that results from touching the touch sensor found in the Mokelis module. When the touch sensor detects touch, the vibrator will vibrate and the MP3 module will play a notification and warning sound.

Dimas Mahendra added that this work was created to increase understanding of the dangers of electricity for young children. According to him, electricity and electrical equipment are parts of human life today, with various functions and uses in supporting various needs. "However on the other hand, electrical equipment carries a risk of danger that threatens personal safety," he said. The use of electrical equipment that is not suit with the standards both in terms of installation and material, will increase the risk of safety. Accidents due to electric shock can also cause psychological trauma to children, so that children will experience fear to connect with electrical equipment until adult. Mokelis is expected to be able to increase understanding of the dangers of electricity in order to have an impact on the reduction in accidents due to electrical equipment.

Rahmad Prasetyo hopes that this work does not stop at the Pimnas medal but can be further developed so it can be useful for society. (winarti)
