A Socialization of ISO / IEC 17025 Accreditation Preparation for Laboratory Management and Calibration Test

In preparation for ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation, Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University held a socialization to prepare the accreditation of test and calibration laboratories, which was followed by all laboratory assistants, technicians and laboratory coordinators and workshops. The agenda was presented by a team from National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN), Prof. Samin, as a speaker who explained in detail about the definition of laboratory management, general and specific requirements, management organization and laboratory quality management. Thursday (11/28). 

Prof. Samin said that ISO was a competency requirement for leading to laboratory accreditation to obtain international acknowledgment. The requirements for this accreditation are vary, such as having quality development documents, quality procedures, work instructions, test methods, activity forms, records of laboratory activities, test equipment and calibrated measuring instruments, competent personnel, not expired standard materials, follow comparative test, and inter-laboratory competency test.

"Because attention has been taken by including all the requirements of ISO 17025 and including all requirements relevant to the scope of the testing service and calibration of the quality management system" he added.

Samin further explained that if all the requirements have been met, the requirements are sent to the National Accreditation Community. After that there are several stages before finally being accredited, namely a feasibility audit, an audit of the adequacy of quality guidelines, and assessment. 

Samin also explained that the obstacle in this process was the inaccessibility of a laboratory because the requirements were too many and the process were too long. However, he hopes the laboratory of Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University can be accredited properly (winarti).
